A QUEER COFFEE SHOP WITH AN INVALUABLE COMMUNITY ROLE URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP.

An unprecedented amount of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is being introduced around the country and hate crimes are spiking. The importance of safe spaces and visible queer presence is more important than ever, and this is especially true in small communities like Gladstone, OR, where hate groups have gotten increasingly comfortable.

Happyrock Coffee has been a hub for community, activism, and inclusive events for 24 years. Happyrock hosted Gladstone’s first ever pride celebration and introduced Clackamas County to drag bingo. It hasn’t always been easy; there have been broken windows, slashed tires, and proud boys hurling slurs outside the shop. But we’re excited to keep doing what we do, because it’s what we love and we know that it matters.

But now we have to ask for your help. The building in which Happyrock has lived for 24 years has been put up for sale and already has a potential buyer. Local bigots have been telling us for a while that they’d like to buy the building out from under us, but we never took that seriously and are shocked that we are now being faced with the loss of our building. We now have a very short amount of time to raise funds to try and make a counter offer or, failing that, secure a new location. With your support, we can give Happyrock Coffee a permanent home in Gladstone. We can be the loudest & gayest coffeeshop in town forever. More love. More community. More fighting for what we believe in. And, yeah, a whole lot more coffee. ❤️

UPDATE: WE HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE OF LEASE TERMINATION. THIS IS A SURPRISE TO US AS OUR LEASE GIVES US THE FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL AND WE EXPECTED TO BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A COUNTER OFFER. We are carefully considering our options right now, but thanks to the huge outpouring of support we’ve received, we are positive that we’ll find a way to stay in Gladstone.

ANOTHER UPDATE: We had to move but we did find another Gladstone location. We will keep you updated on the ETA of our build out and grand opening. Thanks to all of your contributions we are able to stay in Gladstone forever.
